Gemini Notebook with Customer Data Protection

Gemini Notebook is Google’s AI-powered assistant that leverages generative AI and large language models to help users organize information and improve productivity. It allows users to upload sources and interact with them directly, asking contextual questions, summarizing key points, and referencing materials through source-grounded responses. Gemini Notebook is particularly useful for tasks such as reviewing course materials, preparing research, creating study guides, and drafting content based on uploaded documents.  

Who can access Gemini Notebook with Customer Data Protection? 

Gemini Notebook is free to all UGA students, faculty, and staff with their Google Workspace license. 

How do I access Gemini Notebook with Customer Data Protection? 

Visit notebooklm.google.com, and enter your MyID username with @uga.edu in the text box provided. (i.e. MyID@uga.edu).  Then click Next

The UGA Single Sign-On page will appear. Enter your MyID and password and authenticate with ArchPass, powered by Duo, if prompted.

Once you are signed in, Gemini Notebook’s homepage will appear. All your Notebooks, which are records of interactions with Gemini Notebook, are located here.

To create a new Notebook, click the Create New button.

What are some ways users are leveraging Gemini Notebook? 

  • Summarize content: Need a quick summary of research materials? Gemini Notebook can provide an overview of important information in content uploaded to it. 

  • Generate Source Grounded Insights:Gemini Notebook’s source-grounded responses mean that all answers are based solely on the documents you upload—nothing is pulled from outside sources. This ensures accurate, relevant, and citation-backed responses tied directly to your material. 

  • Create audio overviews: If you learn better by listening, Gemini Notebook can provide you with overviews of material or concepts in audio format. 

  • Highlight trends: In addition to creating overviews, Gemini Notebook can find connections, insights and trends in uploaded materials. 

  • Show its sources: Gemini Notebook provides citations for responses, so users can visit sources and verify information and/or learn more about content. 

  • Work Collaboratively: Users can work together simultaneously with Gemini Notebook on shared Notebooks. 

  • Simplify complex concepts: Turn complex concepts into more simple terms for improved comprehension. 

  • Create outlines: Draft outlines for an array of content, including things like presentations, essays and more. Gemini Notebook will generate things such as suggestions on what topics to cover and evidence to support those points. 

  • Help brainstorm: Aid your creative process with Gemini Notebook’s responses. Gain inspiration from sources, get feedback on your thoughts and discover new ideas.

Privacy with Gemini Notebook with Customer Data Protection

With Gemini Notebook Data Protection, Google does not retain the prompts or responses issued by the user, and they are not used to train large language models. It does not have access to organizational resources or content within UGA’s Google Workspace instance, such as documents in Google Drive.
