How to Connect to a Laptop or Desktop to the Wired Network

To connect a laptop or desktop to the wired network, you will need:

  • A computer with an Ethernet port or Network card
  • A Cat-5e or Cat-6 Ethernet cable. Below is an example of what an Ethernet cable looks like.

Note: If you live in Russell Hall, you will need to request a port activation. You will receive an email letting your know your port has been activated. Then you can proceed to the first step. 

How to connect a laptop or desktop to UGA's wired network

  • Find the Wired/LAN MAC address. You will need this when you register the device on UGA's device registration portal. Here's how to find your device's MAC address.
  • Plug your Ethernet cable into your device and the wall-mounted or the access point in your room. Examples of access points and ports you may find in the residence halls are displayed below. 
  • Register your device on UGA's Device Registration Portal at drp.uga.edu
