A Media Access Control (MAC) address is a unique, twelve-digit, hexadecimal address specific to a network card on a device. Devices capable of wired and wireless connection will have a MAC address for each.
If you want to access UGA's wired network, you will need to locate your device's wired MAC Address for registration. You may find the address labeled as MAC Address, Ethernet or Wireless Address/ID, Physical Address, or RJ-45 Address.
Below are instructions for finding a MAC address, based on your device.
Xbox One/Xbox Series X/S
- Open the Settings Menu
- Select Network
- Select Advanced
- The MAC Address will be listed as Wired MAC
Playstation 4/Playstation 5
- In the Home menu, go to Settings
- Scroll down and select Network
- Select View Connection Status
- The MAC Address will be listed as MAC Address (LAN Cable)
Nintendo Switch
You must have the Nintendo Ethernet dongle for the Nintendo Switch to connect it to the wired network. Generic dongles may not work.
- Select System Settings from the Home Menu.
- Scroll down through the menu and select Internet
- The Nintendo Switch console's MAC address will be listed under System MAC Address.
Roku
The MAC address may be displayed on the Roku device. If it is not, follow these steps:
- From the Roku Home screen, press Up to make the Menu Bar appear
- Select Settings
- Select Player Info
There is a known issue with some Rokus where you cannot view anything without first connecting to the Internet. If this is the case:
- Press Home 5 times. Press fast-forward (>>) 3 times. Press Rewind (<<) 2 times.
- This should take you to a page displaying the MAC address and the IP address. This will also give you an option to update software. Update the software and your Roku should work.
