What are the available list restriction settings?

LISTSERV allows owners to create lists with restrictions on who may join their list, how subscribers may post messages and if lists may be archived to view.

Restrictions on who may join a list

  • Open to anyone: Address will be confirmed
  • By Owner: Owner must approve subscribers to the list
  • Closed: Owner must add subscribers to the list

Restrictions on how messages can be posted

  • Public: Anyone can post to the list. We discourage the use of this setting as it can allow for spam messages.
  • Private: Only list subscribers can send messages to the list. Messages from an address that is not subscribed will be rejected, even if the person sending the message is subscribed under a different address.
  • Editor: Messages will be reviewed by a moderator to be approved or denied. This is also used for "Announce-only" lists.
  • Public, Auto-responder: The list just responds with a set message.

Restrictions on who can view list archives

  • Public: Anyone can access the archives
  • Private: Only subscribers can access the archives
  • Owner: Only list owners can access the archives

If a list is configured for archives, posts will be archived monthly.
