Budget Journals in the UGA Financial Management System

   Overview

You can create budget journals in the UGA Financial Management System to increase, decrease, or move your budget. Budget Journals are sometimes referred to as Budget Amendments or Budget Transactions.

Budget Journals can be entered through the Budget Journal pages, and certain budget journals can also be entered through the Budget Transfer pages. Budget journals moving budget between chartstrings and therefore netting to $0 can be entered through the Budget Transfer pages, as well as through the Budget journal pages. It is best practice to use the Budget Journal pages exclusively, as it makes approvals and finding transactions easier.

A Budget Journal Spreadsheet can be used to upload budget journals, and may be a better option if there are a number of lines in the Budget Journal, or if there are numerous budget journals.

The UGA Budget Management System allows you to create Budget Amendments that are imported into the UGA Financial Management System as Budget Journals.

Please refer to the document Guidelines for Budgeting Revenues and Expenditures by Fund for guidance related to the substance of the budget journals.
