Red Hat is a server and workstation operating system. The Red Hat network is a family of systems management services which make updates, patches and bug fixes of packages included within Red Hat Linux and Red Hat Enterprise. Linux is available to subscribers. Features include the deployment of custom content and the provisioning, configuration, reporting and monitoring of client systems. This software is available for Intel chipset and AMD chipset operating systems.

Who can access Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)?

Faculty, staff and student workers with UGA-owned computers can run all Red Hat Linux and Desktop products.

Personal machines for students, faculty and staff will run RHEL for Workstations and Desktop products only.

RedHat licenses may also be purchased from the USG Technology Store.

Do not share activation keys. If you share your activation key, your machine(s) will be removed from the satellite and your account will be terminated.

Inactive systems (e.g. machines not checking in) may be deleted after 30 days.

Improperly registered machines may be removed within 24 hours.

How do I start using Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) services? 

To begin, download the ISO files for installation. You must be on campus to download and install these files.

How to register with RedHat Satellite

Note: These steps are for registering a new system to the General Pool. If you are a DNL migrating a previously registered system or you need access to a department-specific Satellite Organization, please contact the EITS Help Desk at helpdesk@uga.edu
