FAQs
Do DALs have access to the Ally administration console?
No. DALs do not have direct access to the Ally administration console to add or remove domains. All domain management must be routed through the Digital Accessibility Services team, who submits support tickets to Ally for these changes.
Does the person with access to Ally reports have to be a DAL?
No. The DAL may designate other individuals within the unit who need access to Ally institutional reports. This is based on the unit’s needs and reporting responsibilities.
How do I get my websites added to Ally for Web?
DALs will receive communication with a spreadsheet to complete. In the spreadsheet, you will list each domain, provide the main title of the website, and identify who needs access to the reports within your unit.
Once submitted, the Digital Accessibility Services team coordinates with Ally to onboard the domains.
Do I need to install anything on my website for Ally to scan it?
No. Once domains are added to Ally, no additional installation or changes to your existing website are required.
Will I have access through single sign-on?
Yes. Ally for Web uses the “Sign In with Microsoft” option. Once access is assigned, you will sign in using your UGA MyID@uga.edu or current alias email address.
Do I need to list every site or just the sub domain?
Units should list each distinct domain they manage, including sub domains that function as separate sites. Ally currently treats each submitted domain as its own record, so the safest approach is to submit all domains and sub domains your unit maintains.
As Ally’s grouping and scanning features continue to mature, additional guidance will be provided.
Can Ally scan internal sites that are not public-facing?
Internal sites behind authentication may not be the highest priority, but if someone requires access to that content, it must be accessible. These sites should be remediated as needed.
How often does Ally scan websites?
Ally performs automated website crawls on Saturdays. You can also manually trigger a scan at any time through the Ally interface.
Will I be notified when a new report is available?
No automatic notifications are currently sent. Reports are typically available by Monday morning following the Saturday crawl, and users should check the Ally interface directly.
How long does it take for my domains to be added to Ally?
Typical turnaround time is one to two business days after the Digital Accessibility Services team submits your information to Ally. This includes domain configuration, group setup, and access assignment.
What is the process for adding additional domains after the initial submission?
After the initial intake, additional domains are collected on a scheduled basis, such as biweekly or monthly. Urgent requests can be reviewed as needed by the Digital Accessibility Services team.
Can Ally crawl sites that do not end in ".uga.edu?"
Yes, if the domain is owned and managed by UGA. Some UGA-owned or UGA-hosted sites use alternative domain extensions and may be eligible if ownership can be verified.
Ally cannot crawl:
- Personal websites
- Vendor-hosted sites not owned by UGA
- External platforms outside UGA’s domain management
Units remain responsible for accessibility on all sites they operate, regardless of domain extension.
How do I know if my website has been submitted to Ally?
Check with your DAL or contact the Digital Accessibility Services team to confirm whether your site has been submitted.
