Google Workspace FAQ

Summary

Frequently Asked Questions about Google Workspace at UGA.

Body

I tried to access (Google application), but I get the message, “We are sorry, but you do not have access to (Google application). Please contact your Organization Administrator for access.”

The application you attempted to use is not enabled for UGA’s Google Workspace. You can use that application by logging into a personal Gmail account.

Can I get my Google Drive quota increased?

No. Google gives us 100TB of space that must be shared by over 90,000 active accounts. (100TB = 100,000GB)

If you require more space in Google Drive, Shared Drives are available for purchase.

What happens to my Google Workspace account when I leave UGA?

Your Google Workspace account remains active as long as your MyID is active. Once your MyID is disabled, you will lose access to your Google Workspace account and all it contains.

Your account will be suspended, and your account and files will be deleted after 30 days.

Before you leave UGA, we recommend downloading any files you wish to keep and transfering ownership of any shared files to someone else so they are not deleted.

Retirees who have chosen to keep their MyID and UGAmail address active will retain access to Google Workspace in retirement.

Does Google Workspace include Gmail and Calendar?

No. UGA uses Office 365 for email and calendar. Please refer to this article for the list of apps available to you in Google Workspace.

Does Google Workspace include Google Scholar?

Google Scholar Profiles are not enabled for UGA's instance of Google Workspace.

It is recommended that Google Scholar Profiles be managed by a personal @gmail.com address, not your UGA email address, so you retain control of your Scholar Profile if you leave UGA.

To create or manage your Scholar Profile:

  • Log into your personal @gmail.com account.
  • Go to https://scholar.google.com/citations?view_op=new_profile&hl=en and fill out the form. Enter your UGA email address in the Email for verification field.
  • Google will email the @uga.edu address you provided. You will need to click a link in the email to verify your identity.
