Understanding Additional Straight Time (AST)

   Overview

The policies for Overtime and Comp Time have not changed. Employees can earn Overtime or Comp Time when the total hours worked for the week is greater than 40 hours.

In OneUSG Connect, Additional Straight Time (AST) refers to any time paid for over 40 hours in the work week that is not Overtime or Comp Time.

Here is an example when employees may incur Additional Straight Time in a work week:

Reported Time

The employee reports:                  2 hours Vacation (VAC)

40 hours worked (REG)

Payable Time

The employee will be paid for:    2 hours Vacation (VAC)

38 hours Regular (REG)

2 hours Additional Straight Time (AST)

In this example, the employee would not accrue Overtime or Comp Time because they did not exceed 40 worked hours during the week. Note that 2 of the 42 reported hours were vacation hours.
