You can update any of the ChartFields in an existing SpeedType. However, SpeedTypes should not include an Account or Budget Reference. Since these ChartFields designate where and when a transaction is posted, these fields should be entered manually on each transaction to ensure accuracy.
In this article, you will learn the steps to update an existing SpeedType by editing its chartstring in the UGA Financial Management System.
First, log into the Financial Management System.
On the UGA Financial Management System Employee Self Service homepage, click the Classic Home tile.
Navigate to the SpeedTypes page using the following:
Main Menu > Set Up Financials/Supply Chain > Common Definitions > Design Chartfields > Define Values > SpeedTypes
Click the SpeedTypes link.
The SpeedTypes page is displayed.
From this page, you can find an existing SpeedType in order to update the chartstring and/or generate a new SpeedType by entering the appropriate ChartField values.
Enter the appropriate information into the fields in order to locate the SpeedType you wish to edit. For example, you can enter the SpeedType itself into the SpeedType Key field.
Example shown here: 19100Admin in the SpeedType Key field.
Click the Type of SpeedType dropdown list.
SpeedTypes are shared and used by all university units. If you wish to find an existing SpeedType, make sure to select the appropriate Type of SpeedType option.
There are three options available: One Permission, One User, and Universal (All Users).
1. One Permission indicates that the selected SpeedType is permitted to be used only once.
2. One User indicates that the selected SpeedType is generated specifically for only one user.
3. Universal (All Users) indicates the selected SpeedType is shared and used by all university units.
Click the Universal (All Users) option.
Click the Search button.
Click the appropriate link from the searh results.

The searched SpeedType information is displayed with the associated ChartField values. On this page, you can edit the existing ChartField values as needed.
Note: SpeedTypes should not include an Account and Budget Reference. Since these ChartFields designate where and when a transaction is posted, you should manually enter these values each time you submit a transaction.
Enter the appropriate ChartField values into the fields displayed. You can also find the appropriate ChartField value by clicking the Look up magnifying glass next to any of the ChartField fields.
Example show here: Look up magnifying glass next to the Department field.
The Look Up Chartfield Value pop-up window is displayed. To limit your search, enter the appropriate information into the Department and/or Manager Name fields.
Example shown here: 1400 " in the Department field to return all departments that start with 1400.
The ChartField values matching your search criteria are displayed in the Search Results section.
Example shown here: 14000010 link.
When you are done entering the necessary information, click the Save button.
After saving the edits, you can begin using the SpeedType in various types of transactions.
For this example, on the Lines tab page of a General Ledger journal transaction, the updated SpeedType can be used to populate the ChartFields. Enter the updated SpeedType, " 19100Admin " into the SpeedType field.
After entering the updated SpeedType and tabbing out of the SpeedType field, the ChartField values associated with the SpeedType will be populated into the appropriate fields.
You can then add or edit the populated values as needed.
