Using Google Workspace on a Chromebook

Summary

How to log into a Chromebook with your Google Workspace at UGA account. This article also covers what happens to your Chromebook after you leave UGA, and how to access the VPN on your Chromebook.

Body

You can use your MyID and password to log into your Google Workspace at UGA account on a Chromebook. This is a good way to keep your personal account separate from your work/school account, and adds the security of two-factor authentication to the work/school login.

How to log in

Make sure your Chromebook is connected to the internet. On the sign-in screen, click Add Person. In the email address field, enter your MyID@uga.edu email address. Click Next.

You will see the UGA SSO login screen. Log in with your MyID and password. You will also be prompted to verify your identity with Duo. Once you complete the Duo two-step login process, you will be logged into your Chromebook with your Google Workspace at UGA account.

Logging in after you leave UGA

Once your MyID is disabled, you will no longer be able to log into your Chromebook using your Google Workspace at UGA account.

You will also lose access to all files stored locally on the Chromebook, as well as any files in your UGA Google Drive.

If you’ve shared any of your Drive files with another Google Workspace user, you may wish to transfer ownership of those files prior to your last day, so the other user retains access to them.

Accessing the VPN on your Chromebook

The Google Play store and Chrome Web Store are not enabled for Google Workspace at UGA, so you will not be able to download the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client while logged into your Chromebook with your MyID.

If you need to log into the Remote Access VPN, Set up Linux on your Chromebook and then install the Linux version of the Cisco AnyConnect client, available here.
