- Safety is enhanced when each individual department and unit within the University emphasizes a culture of security within their area of responsibility.

- Helps ensure the safety and security of our buildings and employees
- Reduces costs by eliminating the need for changing locks
- Allows certain areas of a building to be accessible to the public while securing other areas
- Proteccts critical areas
- Promotes employee honesty
- Establish clear Policies and Procedures regarding overall access to buildings and areas within the building
- Generate as few keys per unit as possible and restrict issuance of master or core keys to authorized individuals only. Authorization should be at an Associate Director or higher level.
- Design system that secures keys and tracks who has access and to what they have access to.
- Conduct inventory of all keys at least annually.
