Do you think your computer might have a malware infection?
Malware is short for “malicious software” and is used as a single term to refer to a virus, spyware, etc. It is designed to harm and infect the host system. It can be as simple as slowing your system down to locking up your computer and demanding a “ransom” to get your data back.
Just some of the signs that you may have a problem include:
- Computer running slower than usual
- Pop-up ads
- Locked-up computer
- Computer that is crashing
- Essential programs not working
- ……and so on.
Some tips to prevent future infection:
- Have Anti-virus/malware software installed and up to date
- Run regular scans with the above software
- Keep your operating system current with security patches
- Think before you click on links in emails
- Avoid websites that provide pirated material
- Lock down privacy settings on social media
- Back up your data
- Use multiple, strong passwords
